According to the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the RF in January-October 2009 production output of processed timber and wooden products decreased by 21.8%.

The situation of the Russian timber processors is rather difficult: round timber to Finland is shipped from Brazil, since export of round timber from Russia is prohibited.

Some experts are sure that harvesting companies in Russia will be still interested in purchasing of well known, tried machinery.

The most concrete conclusion was that the duty-exempt top diameter of birch roundwood would be raised from 15 centimetres to 24 centimetres.

"We are not going to change the strategy", Mr. Putin.

Topics debated at the summit will include investments and innovation, the forestry and forest resources as well as the development of competence within the forest cluster.

In January – September 2009 glued plywood production decreased by 26.2%.
