Stora Enso is to postpone realization of the project on construction of a pulp and paper mill worth 2 million EUR in the Nizhny Novgorod region for two years. The project has already been included in the list of priority projects in the field of forest exploitation. Local authorities suggested putting off realization of the project but continuing preliminary works. However, management of Stora Enso refused, but confirmed that the works within the project would be continued in the future. The required agreement of intents was signed between Stora Enso and the Administration of the Nizhny Novgorod region already in 2007. The project included construction of a pulp and paper mill with capacity making up 500 th. tons of coated paper. Stora Enso was to choose the construction site of 300 ha by July 2009. Some experts approve the decision made by Stora Enso, as pulp market is falling currently. However, participants on the pulp market see it difficult to make forecasts re. this project. For example, general manager of Syask pulp and paper mill supported solution of Stora Enso, “It was senseless to construct a mill within two years, launch it and work without demand on the market on one hand. On the other, pulp market is mobile, and the project will be relevant again”.
