Project on modernization of Segezha Pulp and paper mill was included in the list of priority investment projects. The Ministry of Industry and Trade included “Polar Bear” project in the least of priority investment projects in the field of forest exploitation. The development programme on reconstruction and modernization of Segezha Pulp and Paper mill aims at constructing an advanced pulp production due to reconstruction and capacity extension up to 845 thousand ton of pulp per year. It is to become one of the world’s largest and most advanced mills for production of bleached coniferous pulp and bleached deciduous pulp from birch. The mill is to process additionally about 2.5 mln cubic meters of raw material annually.The project will allow the North West Federal District to evade raw-material orientation, as “Polar Bear” is to increase the added value of timber harvested in the region as much as 5 times. Expected investment volume amounts to 1 bln EUR with the project being realized by 2013.
